Students at Alvarado Elementary South were treated to visitors from the community last week as part of the district’s Indian Friend Reading Day program.

Community and business leaders in Alvarado volunteered to read to a class and speak with the students about what it is they do in the community.

“Our 10th annual Indian Friend Reading Day was a great success” principal Karla Moore said. “We planned this day to coincide with World Read Aloud Day.  Our focus was Kindness, so all of the books selected had a theme related to being kind to one another. Our students enjoy being read aloud to from various people around our community.”

Readers included representatives from Thompson Pipe, Alvarado Police Department, Alvarado Fire Department, First Financial Bank and local churches, as well as students from Alvarado High School’s Leo Club.
