After a two-year hiatus, the Lady Indian volleyball team returned to the state playoffs this year after a third-place finish in District 17-4A.

The Lady Indians’ play on the court did not go unnoticed by other district coaches as two players earned district superlatives and three others were named to the first or second team all-district.

“Not only am I proud of our return to the playoffs, but these ladies overcame some pretty big obstacles and still finished strong and competed well in spite of them,” head coach Jill Barkey said. “It was a great return back into the tradition of earning a playoff berth.”

Senior Malanie Potter, a first-team selection last year, earned Hitter of the Year with 144 kills during district action. She also finished with a team-high 73 digs and 22 blocks to go along with 8 aces.

A second superlative went to senior Dayla Fuller, who was named the district’s Server of the Year. Fuller led the team with 16 aces while also producing 139 kills and 60 digs.

Earning first team all-district honors was senior Brittne Thomas, who accumulated 327 assists to go along with 18 kills, 66 digs and 13 aces.

Senior Alexys Holt and junior Alysia Torres were honorable mention selections.

Earning Academic All-State honors were Fuller, Holt and Thomas.
